The hospital has an area around 42.93 acres, with the hospital buildings area comprising 2,245.3 square metres. The hospital is named after the British princess Marina, Duchess of Kent.

The site of the current Duchess of Kent hospital was the former site for the old wooden building that was built by the British in 1900, however it was destroyed during World War II and rebuilt in 1951.

Since 2017 until now, the Duchess of Kent Hospital has been utilizing solar tubes to generate electricity, installing a total of 140 solar tubes and helping to save up to 50% of the electricity usage for air conditioning. It is the first hospital in Southeast Asia to use solar energy in its grid.

Before the solar tubes were installed, HDOK was using three centralised ventilation systems for its air conditioning for the past 23 years. However, solar tubes have now completely replaced one out of the three centralised ventilation systems in supplying electricity for air conditioning at the hospital.

When the temperature at these energy tubes reaches 75 degrees Celsius, electricity will be generated and used to operate the hospital’s air conditioner.
