In 1978, Swedish furniture company IKEA opened its first store in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Located at Sixth Avenue, the store brought Singaporeans closer to their dreams of owning a well-designed home.

The original store moved to Katong in 1984, then to Alexandra Road in Queenstown in 1995. The Katong store was 6.000 m2, while the one in Alexandra Road was 11.200 m2.

A second store opened in November 2006 in Tampines. A third store opened at Jem in the 29th of April 2021.
