The painting was made on the 2nd floor of the museum, painted with oil paints on canvas. This is a panorama painting with a length of 132m, a height of 20.5m, 42m in diameter of 42m; the total area is 3,225m2.

The painting was painted within 18 months with the hard work of more than 80 artists, as the first strokes were made in November 2019 and phase 1 was finished in May 2021. The painting was completed just in time for the 67th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954May 7, 2021).

The picture with more than 4,500 characters and the scenery of the mountains and forests of the Northwest is divided into four scenes entitled: The first scene “All people to Join the Battle” describes each group of people, soldiers carrying goods, climbing mountains, wading streams to the front line; Next is the scene “The Doughty Prelude” – with the highlight is the battle of Him Lam opening the Dien Bien Phu Campaign; The third scene is “The Historical Confrontation” with images of trenches, barbed wire, close combat and image of explosives exploding on high hill A1; And the fourth scene is the heroic scene of the “The Victory of Dien Bien Phu Battle” recreate the image of General De Castries being captured alive and the image of each of our troops rising up.

“Battle of Dien Bien Phu” not only brings artistic meanings but also gives viewers a better understanding of the arduous sacrifices of soldiers in the battle of Dien Bien Phu nearly 70 years ago.
