The company was established on December 29, 1978 and is headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand. The company was formed from the merger of two state-owned energy enterprises, the Thai Fuel Organization and the Thai Natural Gas Organization.

Formerly known as the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, it owns extensive submarine gas pipelines in the Gulf of Thailand, a network of LPG terminals throughout the kingdom, and it is involved in electricity generation, petrochemical products, oil and gas exploration and production, and gasoline retailing businesses. The company also owns Café Amazon, a popular coffee chain throughout South East Asia, which shops are often located next to PTT gas stations or inside malls.

PTT is the largest corporation in the country and also the only company from Thailand listed in Fortune Global 500 companies. The company ranks 81st among top 500 on the Fortune 500, and 180 on the Forbes 2000.

According to PTT’s financial summary on the Forbes page, the company as of 2022 has achieved revenue of 70.6 billion USD, total assets reached 92.1 billion USD, and ranked 232 globally in the list of the world’s 2000 largest companies in 2022 by Forbes.
