Established under the royal decree of King Vajiravudh (King Rama VI) in 1913, issued for the purpose of producing cement – is the main building material for infrastructure construction projects, and has contributed significant contributions to the development of the country at that time.

The Group is divided into three core business units: SCG Cement-building materials; SCG Chemicals; and SCG Packaging.  Now, SCG heavily invests their company into Southeast Asia regions including packaging businesses in Malaysia, a petrochemical complex in Vietnam, and many cement plants around the regions.

The cement business is SCG’s first business, started at the same time as the main company was established in 1913 and is considered the first cement producer in Thailand. Initially, the main products were Elephant Cement, Tiger Cement, Rhinoceros Cement, Super Cement and Erawan Cement (formerly).

SCG entered the building materials business in 1938. This is SCG’s second line of business, starting with the production of roof tiles. Currently, SCG’s building materials business consists of manufacturing and distributing building materials and decorative products, including roofing tiles, ceramic tiles, sanitary ware, faucets, insulation, water tank, treatment tank, and housing in SCG HEIM.

SCG entered the chemical business in 1983. Currently, the chemical business produce and sell Integrated Chemicals The primary ones are olefins, intermediates are styrene monomers, PTA and MMA, and the downstream are all 4 main types of plastic resins , namely polyethylene, poly propylene, polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene, whose main company is SCG Chemicals Co., Ltd.

As of January 2020, the company has 51,120 employees in both Thailand and ASEAN.
