When coming to Thai Nguyen, if you want to have the best experience and understand more about the lives of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups in the Northern Midlands and Mountains, don’t miss the Thai Hai Village, whose full name is the Thai Hai stilt house ecological ethnic minority village.

Only 12km from the center of Thai Nguyen city, located in My Hao hamlet, Thinh Duc commune, Thai Hai is not only a tourist destination but also a place to preserve the beautiful culture and traditions of the Tay and Nung people and to immerse yourself in the peaceful life of an oasis in the heart of the city.

Although this place is now getting more attention in terms of tourism, the original purpose of Thai Hai village was not to exploit tourism but to be able to preserve the traditional culture of the Tay people. It all started when Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai didn’t want the stilt houses to be demolished, so she bought 30 houses and moved them here together with many others to protect them. Currently, Thai Ha village is also home to 30 households with four generations. These families always together maintain and preserve traditional cultural features such as language, customs, rituals, and costumes.

Tourists visiting Thai Hai village will be staying in stilted houses with local people so that visitors can learn about the Tay people’s cuisine, culture, agriculture, animal husbandry, and handicraft activities.

Recently, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) announced a list of 32 destinations worldwide that have become “Best Tourism Villages in 2022”. In particular, the Thai Hai eco-ethnic village in Vietnam is honored to be the only place in Southeast Asia named in the above list.
