ThaiBev was founded on 29 October 2003 with the consolidation of 58 beer and spirits businesses, among them Chang beer, second in the beer market after Singha. It is owned by Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, a Chinese immigrant. Chang beer, which started being produced in March 1995 at a brewery in Bang Ban district, Ayutthaya province, is the best-selling brand in Thailand. This is a pale lager, with “Chang” being the Thai word for elephant, an animal of cultural and historical significance in Thailand. The logo depicts two elephants face-to-face.
