Putrajaya is known for its well built late 20th-century architecture of the Putrajaya Mosque and Iranian style architecture of the Putra Bridge which overlooks the famous man-made Putrajaya Lake. 

In Sanskrit, ‘Putra’ means prince or male child and ‘Jaya’ means success or victory. The city was named Putrajaya after the first Malaysian Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. It is based on the theme of a garden city which is modern, exquisite, futuristic and Malaysian but is in absolute harmony with the natural environment. The streets of Putrajaya provide a European feel while the government buildings provide a blend of modern architecture and Islamic Arts.

Putrajaya Botanical Garden

Putrajaya Botanical Garden is the biggest botanical garden in Malaysia located in the northern section of Precint 1. Locally referred to as Taman Botani, it is a haven for nature lovers and avid cyclists and serves as a perfect picnic spot.

The Botanical Garden is divided into 3 different sections: the flowers, ornamental plants, and the preservation/research center. The garden features 5 landmarks, the Explorer’s Trail, Floral Gardens, Sun Garden, Palm Hill, and the Lakeside, that serve as the main points of attraction. Also, there is a seafood restaurant and gift shop onsite and bicycles and paddle boats are available on rent.

Putrajaya Lake

The Putrajaya Lake, located right at the heart of city, is one of the biggest man-made lakes of Malaysia. Spanning across a huge area of 650 hectares, it is popular the water sports, and recreational activities.

The main function of the pristine Putrajaya Lake is to act as a natural cooling system to this region, especially during the drier and more humid months of the year. It also enables a greater trade route by connecting various neighbouring cities to Putrajaya. The famous Putra Mosque and Millenium Monument are located on its shores.

Over the years, the Putrajaya Lake has served as an important center for many international water sporting activities starting from the F1 Powerboat World Championship in 2004, the 2005 Asian Canoeing Championship followed by the Red Bull Air Races in 2014 and the SEA Games – 29 in 2017. This beautifully planned lake has truly emerged as the pride of the city.

Alamanda Putrajaya

Alamanda is a shopping and entertainment centre situated at Precinct 1. Touted to be the biggest mall in Putrajaya, it houses an exclusive range of over 160 brand stores.

Alamanda Shopping Centre offers a wide range of eating options, right from bakeries to international food joints. The mall also features Esplanade, a wonderful dining space with a beautiful light show. The other major attractions at Alamanda are the Superstar Karaoke Box and the bowling center.

Seri Perdana

Seri Perdana, located in Presint 10, Malaysia is the official residence of the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

This lavishly built structure covers a huge area of around 42.5 acres with the architecture and layout being heavily influenced by the traditional Malay, Muslim and European styles. With multiple tours of the palatial residence conducted throughout the day and a special interactive session held once a day with the government officials at Seri Perdana, the visitors get a highly insightful view of the Malaysian society and their beliefs and practices.

The huge flower garden just behind Seri Perdana displays a huge variety of roses and hibiscuses. This leads us onto the mini children’s park where the kids can go and mingle around with the tiny, playful butterflies. Attached to the residential block is the Prime Minister’s office whose grandiose leaves the visitors filled with awe.
