Jadi Batek Gallery is one of the largest and most reputable batik handicraft centers in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Coming here, you can learn more about traditional Malaysian batik painting techniques and especially take home your own batik painting.

Their batik classes are available every day. During the workshop, they will first explain the batik-making process followed by batik demonstration so you can watch and learn along. Finally, after you’ve watched the skilled artisans perform, you can start making your own batik by sketching your own designs, drawing hot wax with traditional tools, and painting dye on the fabric for your very own original batik masterpiece.

Jadi Batek will provide you with all the equipment you need to get started, and if you get stuck at any stage, its artisans will guide you through the session.

Guests can choose to create various batik masterpieces:

  • Handkerchief (cotton or silk) batik drawing and colouring – 30 x 40 cm (60-90 mins)
  • Scarf (cotton or silk) batik drawing and colouring – 90 x 90 cm (90-120 mins)
  • Pareo (cotton or silk) batik drawing and colouring – 90 x 200 cm (120-150 mins)
  • T-shirt (cotton only) – for adults and kids (60 mins)

After you finish your painting, the center will dry that batik painting, fix the color and remove the wax for you. You can come back the next day to receive your masterpiece, which will be framed in a plastic paper frame.

One thing to note is that there will be many participants for this class, so if you want to make sure you have a seat, you should find out and call to book 2-3 hours in advance with the center.
