Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle located at Block 335 Smith St, #02-126, Chinatown Food Complex, Outram Planning Area, is a small street food stall like more than 6,000 other small eateries in Singapore. However, what makes it different is that in 2016, the restaurant became one of the first two street eateries in the world to be awarded a Michelin Star, along with Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle also in Singapore.

Chef Chan Hon Meng or Chef Chan and now familiar name Hawker Chan was born in Malaysia and from the age of 15 had a desire to pursue a career as a chef. In the early 1980s, he moved to Singapore and apprenticed to a chef from Hong Kong. That is also the reason why his shop later became known as Hong Kong Soya Sauce Rice and Noodle.

The restaurant is famous for its noodles and chicken rice with soy sauce, with the chickens being selected and roasted, along with a sauce with Mr. Chan’s own recipe, making the chicken pieces delicious and rich. thanks to the dipping sauce. Almost everyone who comes here will order rice or chicken noodles with soy sauce to enjoy.

After receiving a Michelin star, Mr. Chan opened another restaurant on Smith Street to reduce the pressure of stalls in the food court. Of course, diners coming to Hawker Chan have to pay more to enjoy better services. At the counter at China Town Food Complex, each plate of food ranges from S$2 to S$3, while at the Smith Street outlet, diners will have to pay S$4 to S$5.
