There is also many stories regarding the origin of the Kuda Kepang . One of them is Wali Songo who live in the land Java in 15th Century, in his effort to expand Islam in rural areas, he is having difficulties to approach them. Then, he got an idea which is to dance like riding. This dance is most favorable to the Johor people. Other than being known as a cultural dance , Kuda Kepang is also known as famous traditional game among Johor society.
In this dance, they use various type of instruments. The main props of this dance will be :
1.Horses
The imitation of horses made of cowhide.
The horses are decorated and ornamented with paint. The usual paint used is red, white and grey.

2. Whip
Whip is made of several spun bamboos. It function as trapping the entrance of the dancers, directing them and keeping them remaining in the stage.
3. Rope
The measurement of the rope is 30 meters. It is used to form rectangle fence so that the trance dancers will not hang around and not harming audience.
Meanwhile , the music instruments used in this particular dance are : Angklung, drum and Gong
The costume of the dancers are influenced by the Javanese. The dancers are usually all men.The Kuda Kepang dance is usually performed wedding and feast occasion. It also being included in major celebration in Johor such as Johorean Goverment festivals, cultural displays and Sultan of Johor's birthday celebration.
