More frequently referred to as Bumrungrad Hospital or simply Bumrungrad, its name, Bumrungrad means ‘to care for the populace’ or ‘to nurture the people’.

Bumrungrad International Hospital was established as a 200-bed facility on 17 September 1980 with an investment of 90 million baht. The hospital’s main facility, opened in 1997, has a total area of 70,262 square meters, with 12 stories with underground parking, and wide Wi-Fi network coverage. The building also houses a fully licensed medical heliport.

The Outpatient Clinic Facility, opened in 2008, is one of the largest private outpatient clinics in the world with a 21-storey building of 57,206 square meters, 700 parking spaces, one-stop convenient store, wwith cashier and pharmacy stations on each clinic floor, an automated lab to provide faster, more reliable results.

As of 2019, the hospital has 1,200 physicians and dentists and 900 nurses working. The hospital currently has 580 beds, with an additional 63 beds in the ICU. As of 2019, Bumrungrad maintains 47 outpatient specialist medical centers and clinics. With 272 examination rooms, it can serve up to 5,500 outpatients per day.

Bumrungrad was the first hospital in Asia to be accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), an affiliate of the Joint Commission, a leader in healthcare accreditation.
