Farrer Park Hospital was opened on March 16, 2016 by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong. Located above the Farrer Park MRT station at the Connexion building, the hospital has a capacity of 220 beds across four inpatient suites and 18 operating theaters including major surgery, cardiovascular and endoscopic suites.

Doctors have electronic tablets and/or phones linked to the hospital systems, allowing them to get real-time updates of patients’ scans and test results. This also helps them in ordering medication for patients on the go. Technology is woven into “every facet of treatment and patient experience.”

Set up to offer a fresh approach to medical treatment, the hospital is home to various advanced medical technology and equipment. Notable treatments include the use of Transurethral Microwave Thermotherapy (TUMT) to treat benign prostate hyperplasiaand the application of pressurized intraperitoneal aerosolized chemotherapy (PIPAC) treatment for end-stage peritoneal cancer.

Especially in 2019, the hospital officially introduced High Intensity Focus Ultrasound (HIFU) technology for the treatment of uterine fibroids, adenomyoma, and adenomyosis. This technology is a non-invasive surgery that uses focused ultrasound to generate highly localized heat to threat tumors either benign or malignant. Farrer Park Hospital has become the first hospital in Southeast Asia to perform this treatment.

The HIFU treatment of uterine fibroids depends on symptoms in patients, the size of the fibroid, desire for future pregnancy, and preference of the treatment by the gynecologist. This treatment method provides candidates who are unsuitable for surgery or do not wish to undergo surgery, an alternative solution to remove the growths.
