The Group’s history started in early 1980’s, where it was principally involved in trading of cocoa beans. In 1983, the company started processing cocoa beans by establishing a factory in Parit Jawa, Muar, Johor.

In 1990, the company built a new factory in Pasir Gudang Industrial Park of GCCM an annual grinding capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes (MT) of bean grinding, which was later upgraded and improved to 80,000 MT. In 2011, the second crushing plant in Batam, Indonesia was put into operation with an annual crushing capacity of 120,000 MT. In 2017, the third crushing plant, KokoBudi (now known as GCB Cocoa Malaysia) was put into operation with a total of 50,000 MT per year.

Guan Chong Berhad was incorporated in Malaysia as a public company on 22nd March 2004 and listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia on 8th April 2005.

The Group has principally involved in manufacturing cocoa-derived food ingredients, namely cocoa mass, cocoa butter, cocoa cake and cocoa powder. Subsidiary GCB Foods has reached out to end-users by producing chocolate & chocolate beverages.

With facilities in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia; Batam, Indonesia as well as in Mannheim, Germany, GCB has a total cocoa grinding capacity of 257,000 MT per year as at FY2020.
