Currently at $2,500/kilogram, Black Ivory Coffee is one of the most expensive coffees in the world. The production company makes only a handful of coffees and sells them to select five-star hotels for around $50 a cup. The high price of the product is largely due to the large number of coffee cherries needed to produce the finished product: 33 kilograms (72 pounds) of raw coffee cherries results in one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of the finished product because most of the beans are not recoverable as they are chewed by the elephants, become fragmented, or are lost in the bush after being excreted

At first this coffee was only produced at the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation in Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai province, which is a caretaker for rescued elephants. Later Black Ivory Coffee was also produced in Surin province, northeast Thailand.

Although only sold to some 5-star hotels, you can also buy it at the company’s website, so if you are curious about the taste of this coffee and like to enjoy luxurious food, you can order and make your own assessment.
