The music video “Top of the Lady” by female artist Tep Boprek was officially released on November 27, 2021, on Youtube. The MV uses virtual production technology to film the scene as well as showing many Khmer artistic elements such as Khmer ancient inscriptions on palm leaves, the Mony Mekhala dance, Angkor Thom temple, Bayon, and Preah Vihear, etc in the MV.

The budget to make the MV was $150,000 – the most ever spent on a four-minute 30-second music video in Cambodia.

The lyrics also send a strong message to listeners. “Together we can eliminate the stigma against women. Do not let it happen in the Kingdom.”

The song also helped the female artist win 3 noble awards: Music Video of the Year, Music of the Year, and Video of the Year at the recent Pleng Music Award 2022.

Virtual production is one of the most advanced and important technologies since the advent of digital cameras. It uses a giant LED screen and applies game engine technology to cover all the props and the actress. And as the camcorder moves, the virtual production on the LED screen changes as well, using VFX technologies to navigate the virtual landscape.

The uniform movement between the camera and the image is known as the parallax effect, to create a realistic scene of the location in a virtual environment. Live camera tracking helps convert precise camera movements into rendering where the director of photography can clearly see the entire frame happening in real-time.
