The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry in cooperation with the Riau Islands provincial government and the Bintan district government is making preparations for the development of the coast into a tourist destination, Chief of the Tourist Destination Development Section at the Riau Islands Provincial Government Riodesmawati Lubis said after attending a discussion in Riau Islands Province’s capital, Tanjungpinang, on Wednesday.

Trikora Coast which is located in Malang Rapat Village and 50 kilometers from Tanjungpinang covers an area of 52 hectares.

“At the discussion this time we conceived a plan for the development of tourist destination in the eastern coast of Bintan Island, to be exact Trikora Coast. The tourist destination is designed to become an open space that visitors can use it as activity centers such as pedestrian corridor, park and so on,” she said.

Riodesmawati said the plan to develop the tourist destination is aimed at promoting the local people’s economy and increasing the number of foreign and domestic tourists to the region.

“(The development of) Trikora Coast will expedite the government’s efforts to promote the local people’s economy,” she noted.

Acting chief of the Bintan District Culture and Tourism Office Dahlia Zulfa said the government drew attention to the development of Trikora Coast as a tourist area for a number of reasons.

One of the reasons is that the coast is high on the list of the Bintan district’s development priorities.

“Trikora Coast can be easily accessed by tourists any time. It offers the most attractions in Bintan District,” he said.
