Jasmine rice is grown mainly in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Rice after harvesting will be pounded and hulled. The rice can then be left in a hulled form called paddy rice, de-hulled to produce brown rice, or milled to remove the germ and some or all of the bran, producing white rice.

Thailand and Vietnam are the two largest exporters of Jasmine rice in the world and are also the two countries that hold the 2nd and 3rd positions in the world rice export ranking right after India. According to the Thai Rice Exporters Association (TREA), in 2021, Thailand exported 6.11 million tons of rice, of which 1.4 million tons are Jasmine Rice. And according to data on the Statista website, in 2021, Vietnam exported 1.891 million tons of Jasmine rice, 91 million tons more than the volume of the second-ranked rice, 5% white rice.

Currently, according to the latest data of website thairiceexporters.or.th, Thailand has exported more than 112,337 tons of Jasmine Rice by the end of February 2022, while the volume of rice exports in Vietnam to January 2022 total is 505,741 tons, with export volume of Jasmine Rice ranked 2nd in total volume.
