JJF was initiated by Indonesian entrepreneur Peter F. Gontha. The festival not only brings high-quality jazz music but also creates a unique cultural space, attracting music enthusiasts from all over the world to Indonesia.

Designed to become one of the largest jazz music festivals globally with support from the Indonesian government and local organizations, this festival is not only a platform for famous jazz artists but also a forum for young artists to showcase their talents.

The first festival in 2005 featured about 125 bands and 1,405 performers in 146 programs; it successfully attracted 47,500 visitors over three days.

Every year, Java Jazz Festival brings many artists from around the world to the festival. From renowned jazz bands like Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, to emerging artists like Kamasi Washington. The festival is always an opportunity to explore new rhythms and listen to unique performance styles.

In addition to the main performances, Java Jazz Festival also organizes side activities such as seminars, workshops, and cultural exhibitions. This creates a space for exchange and dialogue among artists, music producers, and fans.

JJF 2024 will take place from May 24 to 26 with the slogan “Embracing unity through music”. This festival not only attracts artists from Indonesia but also from all over the world.

Java Jazz Festival is not just a music event but also a platform to promote the development of the music industry and culture of Indonesia on the world map. With diversity in genres and the participation of top jazz artists, Java Jazz Festival will surely continue to be a notable highlight in the history of jazz music in the region and the world.
