The Phnom Penh Municipal Authority has decided to allow the reopening of all businesses and sales within the framework of all state markets in Phnom Penh. This was revealed in a decision signed by Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh on the evening of  June 14.

All state markets and unregulated markets in Phnom Penh were ordered to be closed on the night of April 24 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when cases soared to almost 1000 every day.

Some of the big and popular markets have had had hundreds of vendors, security, officials, and patrons tested positive for COVID-19.

On May 2, the state markets were allowed to re-open but not in full as many shops were kept shut, except those selling food-related items. Market vendors were still selling vegetables, fruits, seafood, and meat from mobile carts or sidewalks.
