It is best known for Champasak Cultural Landscape, which comprises of a series of 12th century Angkor temples, which are UNESCO heritage-listed sites.

The town is home to French colonial architecture, and the province has a lot of attractions to offer for tourists including the best waterfalls, Si Phan Don islands and Laotian countryside on the banks of the Mekong River.

Tad Somphamit Waterfalls

Tad Somphamit is a natural Waterfall located on the island of Don Khone near Four Thousand islands in Central Laos. Also called as Li Phi falls among the locals, it is a part of Don Khone Somphamit Waterfalls Park and is known for its enormous rapids amidst rocky cliffs. It is one of the worth visiting places for tourists while exploring Don Khone island.

The waterfalls are not ideal for swimming or hiking around as the cliffs are rocky and the water currents are very high. You can spend time in the nearby beaches of Li Phi and Xai Kong Nyai, where you might get a chance to get into waters based on the favour of the current. The beaches and the viewpoints along the waterfalls also offer excellent views of sunset and sunrise. If you want some more adventure, you can zipline on the waterfall, which is provided by the Mekong Zipline company. It costs about 20 USD per person and is a thrill ride over the cliffs and hills.

Wat Phou

Wat Phou predates the Angkor Temple Complex in Cambodia. It’s a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the largest Angkor temple in Laos. The museum on site has beautifully preserved carvings and excellent information about the history of the Khmer people, and the discovery and restoration of the ruins.

Golden Buddha

The Golden Buddha is one of the major attractions in Wat Phou Salao Buddhist temple located near the city of Pakse in Laos. Its beautiful location atop a hill offers fantastic views of the city, making it one of the top places for tourists visiting Pakse. Get there around sunset for the magnificent views from the top. You can take the stairs, which would take about 30 minutes or ride to the top in a tuk-tuk.

Ho Nang Sida and Hong Tha Tao 

While Wat Phou is the most famous and largest Khmer temple in Laos, several other smaller ruins are worth checking out if you have the time and energy for an off-the-beaten-path experience. Ho Nang Sida has a small lake by it and is close to Wat Phou. Hong Tha Tao requires a 30 minute walk through rice paddies to find.
