Istiqlal Mosque is located in Jakarta, Indonesia with a capacity of 200,000 people, the largest in Southeast Asia. In terms of building structure and land area, Istiqlal is also the largest in Southeast Asia and the fourth largest in the world, with 95,000 square meters of total area.

The church was completed in 1978 to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of Indonesian independence, as well as to show the nation’s gratitude for God’s blessings. It was named “Istiqlal”, an Arabic word meaning “independence”.

2. Al-Akbar Mosque – Indonesia

Al-Akbar Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Surabaya, is a national mosque located in Surabaya, East Java. It is the second largest mosque in Indonesia after Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta in terms of maximum capacity, with a capacity of 59,000 people. The most special feature of the mosque is the large vertical dome, accompanied by four small blue domes.

3. Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque – Malaysia

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque is a mosque in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. With a capacity of 24,000 people, it is the third largest mosque in Southeast Asia by capacity. Its most distinguishing feature is its large blue and silver dome. The mosque has four minarets, one erected at each of the corners.

4. Marawi Grand Mosque – Philippines

The Marawi Grand Mosque, also known as the Islamic Center is a mosque located in Pangarungan Village, Marawi, Lanao del Sur, Philippines. The Marawi Grand Mosque has three floors and a basement and has a total floor area of 9,434 m2 square meters. It has the capacity to accommodate 20,000 worshippers at any given time, and is considered to be the biggest Islamic place of worship in the Philippines.

5. Dian Al-Mahri Mosque – Indonesia

Dian Al-Mahri Mosque, also known as Golden Dome Mosque, is a mosque built on the edge of Raya street, Depok City in West Java, Indonesia. The mosque was built by Hj. Dian Djuriah Maimun Al Rashid, a businesswoman from Banten. The construction had begun in 2001 and finished around the end of 2006. The mosque was inaugurated to the public on December 31, 2006, coinciding with the second Eid al-Adha of the year. With an area of 50 hectares, this mosque can accommodate about 20,000 worshipers.
