Batu Caves is located under a limestone hill, located in Gombak district, about 15km north of the capital Kuala Lumpur. The name of the cave is derived from the name of the Sungai Batu River. From the nineteenth century, the Batu Caves were found by an Indian trader – Thambusami. But until the twentieth century, the Batu Caves were rebuilt as a temple of the gods, becoming the religious center of Hinduism in Malaysia.

Batu is known as one of the most famous Hindu temples in Malaysia. Every day, about 5,000 visitors visit the cave, although they have to climb 272 steps to get there.

One of the reasons why Batu cave attracts tourists is the huge and sophisticated sculptures from the stairs, gates to the temple or the decorations are all due to the talented hands of Indian sculptors.

The most prominent feature in Batu cave is the world's tallest statue of Murugan with a height of 42.7 m standing in front of the cave. Erected in 2006, this is the largest statue in the world dedicated to the gods.
