Initiated in 2003, Pyestang Tugak was established with the aim of preserving and promoting the unique Kapampangan culture, particularly the traditions associated with frogs. The term “Tugak” translates to “frog” in the Kapampangan language, reflecting the central theme of the festival.

Festival Activities

The festival features a variety of activities that revolve around frogs. One of the highlights is the traditional frog-catching competition, where participants use a bamboo pole and a soil hook, known as “paduasan“, to catch frogs in a traditional manner.

The culinary aspect of the festival is another major attraction. Various unique frog dishes of Pampanga are showcased, including the famous “Betute” or stuffed frog. This dish involves stuffing the frog’s stomach with minced pork, garlic, and spices, and then deep-frying it.
