Seatrium Ltd and the Breakthrough Project
Energy and maritime solutions company Seatrium Ltd has completed the installation of the Floating Energy Storage System (ESS) in Singapore. The system is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2024.
Floating Energy Storage System (ESS)
This floating and stackable ESS was built in collaboration between Seatrium and the Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore. The energy storage system functions like a reservoir, storing excess energy during low demand periods and releasing it during high energy consumption periods.
Solution for Limited Land Area
Seatrium stated that this floating and stackable energy solution plays a crucial role in addressing the issue of limited land area in Singapore. The facility has a maximum storage capacity of 7.5 megawatt-hours (MWh) and can meet the electricity needs of “over 600 households in a day”.
The launch of Southeast Asia’s first floating, stackable energy storage facility in Singapore not only affirms the country’s pioneering position in the energy sector but also opens up a new direction for other countries in search of effective solutions for energy storage and use.
