Specific Pathogen Free refers to laboratory animals that are free of particular pathogens for research and biologics. SPF eggs are widely used in vaccine development and production.

Commercial production of SPF eggs got its start in Thailand in 2011 when Mr. Somboon Sinpatanasakul and friends envisioned producing SPF eggs in Thailand to support the "National agenda for Vaccine Production" for the Thai Government Pharmaceutical Organization’s (GPO) human influenza vaccine program.

Somboon sought guidance from experts in the SPF egg industry and visited SPF operations in both the United States and India. Upon his return to Thailand, Somboon began looking for locations suitable for SPF egg production.

Actual construction on a state of the art SPF poultry farm began in 2012 on 43 acres of land (100 rai) located in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand. Thai SPF Co., Ltd. would become the first commercial source of SPF eggs in South East Asia with the unwavering goal of producing high quality SPF eggs to support Thailand’s influenza vaccine initiative and the global vaccine industry.

In 2016, the board of directors of Thai SPF enlisted the services of Russel Larson of Larson Avian Solutions, an America based SPF specialist with more than 40 years of experience in the industry.

Now, Thai SPF is working closely with GPO to ensure that Thailand’s Influenza Vaccine program is successful, leading for the overall health betterment of South East Asia.
