The lion dance took place until February 1, at the 3D CuBig KLCC Billboard, the performance was launched by DuitNow QR.

Featuring large, life-like lion dancers that pop out of the screen, this festive performance captured the attention of passersby.

To make the experience as realistic as possible, actual footage of a lion dance was combined with 3D effects, as opposed to only using 3D animation.

For an even more immersive experience, pedestrians could scan a QR code on the billboard, which led to an Instagram filter with an augmented reality (AR) feature.

This was the first time an AR mapping of this scale had been executed for an outdoor billboard, as AR interactions were normally confined to smaller features such as brochures or ang pao packets.

When pedestrians launched the filter on their phones, pointed their cameras at the billboard and started recording, they would experience the lion dancers coming to life on their phones, giving them an added level of entertainment.

To send festive greetings, they could simply record and publish the video on Instagram, tagged loved ones and included Chinese New Year wishes.
