The Sembawang God of Wealth temple started as a small temple and was painstakingly built up to its current size through years of fundraising.

Sembawang God of Wealth Temple received its “Joss Ash” from a temple in China in 1998. After successfully bidding for the plot of land at No. 28 Admiralty Street in 2001, the temple began its construction in June 2004. The project was completed on September 30, 2006. Spanning a total of 20,000 square feet, the project costs $3 million.

The temple is known for the 9.44m-tall statue of the God of Wealth on its rooftop, said to be the largest of its kind in the world.

Weighing 4 tonnes and covered with 120,000 pieces of 24-karat gold leaf, the statue was made in Fujian, China at a cost of S$500,000.
