SCG was established in 1913 by royal decree of King Rama VI to produce cement, the main building material for infrastructure projects which greatly contributed to the development of the country during that period.

In 1938, Siam Fiber-Cement Co. Ltd. was established, marking the beginning of SCG’s encroachment into the building materials industry. By 1950, SCG was the first company to produce rebar in Thailand.

Since its establishment, SCG has continuously developed and diversified its products and focused on 3 core business segments namely Cement- Building Materials, Chemicals and Packaging.

Concrete and Aggregate Products Co., Ltd. was established in 1951 to manufacture and supply ready-mixed cement, reinforced cement and prestressed concrete products at the first prestressed concrete factory in Thailand.

In 1983, the company started the chemical business, with the main chemicals being olefins, the intermediates being styrene monomers, PTA and MMA, and finally all 4 major plasticizers namely polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene.

SCG entered the paper business in 1976, later changed to Packaging business in 2015, aiming to be a leader in integrated packaging in the ASEAN region.

As of January 2020, the company has 51,120 employees in both Thailand and ASEAN. In the same year, SCG is the second largest public company in Thailand and 604th in the world according to Forbes magazine.
