The company’s history dates back to 1883, when Scotsmen founders John Fraser and David Chalmers Neave founded the Singapore and Straits Aerated Water Company, along with their printing factory, to produce carbonated soft drinks.

By 1898, when it went public, the company changed its name to Fraser and Neave, Limited (“F&N”). In 1931, Fraser & Neave formed a joint venture with Heineken of the Netherlands to enter the brewing business. In 1936, F&N was licensed to bottle Coca-Cola for Singapore and Malaysia.

In 1956, the company entered into a joint venture with Beatrice Foods in Chicago to build the region’s first sweetened condensed milk factory built in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. By 1968, the company started producing milk in Singapore, and by 1974, a modern ice cream factory was built. In 1985, the company entered the real estate business.

In 2000, the company’s third core business, Publishing, was formed when F&N took majority control of the Times Publishing Group. In 2006, F&N announced the acquisition of Nestle’s liquid and canned milk businesses in Malaysia and Thailand and became the largest producer of canned milk in Southeast Asia upon completion in 2007.

Listed on the Singapore Exchange, F&N ranks as one of the oldest and most successful companies in the region with an impressive array of well-known brands and strong market leadership. F&N is present in 11 countries across Asia Pacific and the Americas and has more than 6,700 employees worldwide. As of 2021, F&N has total assets of over S$4.9 billion.

The company is also the owner of the leading sports drink brand in Southeast Asia 100Plus, launched in 1983 on the occasion of the company’s 100th anniversary.
